Tog is a measure of thermal insulation per unit area of fabric, also known as thermal resistance. The different tog number of a baby sleeping bag determines its thickness and therefore how warm it will keep your child. The higher this number, the warmer the baby sleeping bag. A sleeping bag with 2.5 tog is considered winter, one with 1.5 tog is for spring-autumn, and 0.5 tog is for summer.
Which tog sleeping bag to choose depends mainly on the temperature in the child's room.
- Tog 2.5 winter 18-21°C Suitable for year-round use.
- Tog 1.5 spring-autumn 22-24°C Suitable for the transitional seasons, as well as for summer.
- Tog 0.5 summer 25-28°C Suitable for summer heat and a highly heated room.
These are just guidelines - you should always check your baby yourself to make sure they are not overheating. It's better for his skin to be slightly cool than hot and even sweaty from overheating. It's completely normal for a baby's hands to be cool.
